If you’ve fallen into “all-or-nothing thinking”, believing “nothing I do matters – I still always lose”, you don’t have to stay there.
Research shows that learned helplessness can be overcome by cultivating resilience and restoring a sense of control.
Resilience is the ability to master the emotional challenges of your job and deal with everyday uncertainties that cause stress. This ability to persist in a difficult situation and overcome challenges is considered among the top 3 most desirable traits.
With complementary traits like confidence and grit, resilient people find solutions, solve problems quickly, don’t mind asking for help but don’t need hand-holding, special consideration, or constant approval from others. Resilient employees, students, and partners can be counted on to get the job done. But it takes purposeful effort to learn to be resilient. Think of it like a muscle; we have to exercise it to strengthen it.
