Sometimes we get so focused on a decision that other important elements fade from our view. It’s important to remember that the way we say or do a thing can be just as important as what we say or do.
Leaving a job or a relationship might be the right move, but doing it with integrity and consideration makes all the difference. Not just for those we’re leaving, but also a difference in our heart and conscience as we move forward.
Firing a person might become necessary, but releasing them to find their purpose and wishing them every success along their journey ensures you’ve done your part to protect their dignity and attract other high-quality people for your team.
Telling someone you love a hard truth, or that you disagree with them, or even just setting a healthy boundary are all good things that can go terribly wrong if we fail to execute them with kindness and respect.
The next time you get angry or find that someone is angry with you, instead of jumping to the conclusion that it’s about the decision itself, it may be helpful to examine whether it has more to do with the way that the decision was walked out.
